Richard Ackley of Sebastian, Florida, 84 years of age departed us too soon on March 8, 2017 leaving behind many domino playing and movie going friends and sad family members. He is at peace by the side of his loving wife, Barbara Ackley.
Richard took pride in his horticultural abilities working in the yard outsmarting the squirrels and could fix just about anything. Barbara and Richard enjoyed taking cruises together with their beloved friends. He was a man of few words with a wit and dry sense of humor. He had the strongest embracing hug letting you know that he cared and that you were loved. Richard worked for many years at Lucent Technologies. After retirement in Sebastian, he drove for Avis and often commented on his buddies and their many van trips together.
Richard was born on February 14, 1933 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey to Jeanette and Richard Ackley. He resided in Sebastian, Florida for over 25 years. He is survived by his children and their spouses of his first wife Eileen Corley: Richard Ackley (Eva), Eileen Arant (Ackley) (Jim), Kate McKelvey (Ackley) (Chris) and Tim Ackley (Beth). Also survived are his sister-in-law, Susan Dearnly (Peter) and son and daughter-in-law of Barbara Ackley; Keith Thompson (Jolene) and Lyn Townshend. Richard is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
