Ruby C. Whipkey
December 27, 1924 – November 23, 2019
Ruby Coots Whipkey, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2019. She was the widow of the late Doyle Joseph Whipkey with whom she shared 70 years of marriage. Mrs. Whipkey had been living in Marietta, Georgia since January 2018, but had previously been a long-term resident of Dayton, Ohio, and later of Palm Bay, Florida.
Born in Lynch, Kentucky, Mrs. Whipkey was the daughter of James M. and Annie Coots (now deceased), along with six siblings (also now deceased). After graduation from Cumberland High School in Cumberland, Kentucky she moved to Baltimore, Maryland during WWII where she met and married her late husband, Doyle, and also worked as a foreperson building Liberty ships. After the War, she and Doyle moved to Dayton, Ohio where she went on to have a long career with Delco/General Motors as an executive assistant.
Mrs. Whipkey was a long-time member of Victory Assembly of God in Palm Bay, Florida. She enjoyed singing, and was an active member of the church choir. She treasured spending time with her friends and family, and loved to entertain and host gatherings. She was instantly loved by all who came in contact with her, and will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and hospitality.
Mrs. Whipkey is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and several close friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on December 2, 2019, at Victory Assembly of God in Palm Bay, Florida. Visitation will be at the same location beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
