Sheila Rae Eschenberg, born February 9, 1945, passed peacefully on June 12th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A woman of deep faith and remarkable resilience, Sheila was fiercely devoted to the people and causes she believed in, committing herself fully to those she served.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Michael Eschenberg, and her parents, Johnny and Mildred Barrett. Sheila is survived by her siblings Michael Barrett, Sharon Curry, and Patty Lovvorn, as well as her three children, Barry Eschenberg, Matthew Eschenberg, and Karen Atkinson. She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved wholeheartedly.
Sheila spent her life helping those in need. She served for many years with the Sharing Center, driven by her desire to serve others in the way Jesus taught- through practical care, compassion, and presence. She quietly stepped in when families were struggling, gathering essentials and offering support without hesitation. Her work with the migrant community in Fellsmere was especially close to her heart, where she offered steady, hands on care to families she came to love.
Sheila dedicated countless hours to supporting pro-life efforts, advocating for mothers and their unborn children, and helping families facing difficult circumstances. She believed that every child was a gift from God and worked tirelessly to support ministries that offered hope, encouragement, and practical assistance to women and families. Her unwavering commitment to the right to life reflected her faith and her belief in the value and worth of every person.
She cherished family gatherings, praying the rosary, and attending daily Mass. For the past 30 years, St. Joseph Catholic Church was her spiritual home, though she was known and loved at all the Catholic parishes in the area, where she faithfully attended daily Mass. Her devotion to prayer, service, and community touched everyone who knew her.
Sheila leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, generosity, and service. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, her community, and all those whose lives she touched.
