Werner Wonka

Werner Wonka, 92, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026. Born in Germany on June 15, 1934, Werner lived a life defined by devotion to his family, quiet strength, and an enduring commitment to those he loved.

In 1962, Werner married the love of his life, Vera, in Germany. Together they shared an extraordinary journey, beginning that same year when they embarked on a new chapter in the United States. Traveling by ship with Vera's cousin Hubert and his wife Karin, they arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before settling in New Berlin, Wisconsin.

Their family grew with the birth of their son, Dave, in 1964, and their daughter, Susan, in 1966. In 1977, the family relocated to Vero Beach, Florida, where they continued building a life filled with cherished memories, lasting friendships, and strong family bonds.

While family was always at the center of his life, Werner was also a gifted craftsman. He spent 36 years as a stained-glass technician with Conrad Pickel Studios, where his remarkable attention to detail and dedication to his craft contributed to the creation of beautiful stained-glass windows that today grace churches and mausoleums in local communities and throughout the country.

After retiring in 1999, Werner enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness such as daily walks on the beach, projects for his family, and traveling the world with Vera. As a strong-willed and deeply devoted man, Werner showed his love in the ways that mattered most to him such as through hard work, acts of service, and the steady support he provided to his family throughout his life.

Known affectionately as husband, dad, and Opa, Werner found his greatest joy in his growing family. He treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took pride in watching each generation flourish.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Vera Wonka; his son, Dave Wonka and his wife Teresa; his daughter, Susan Wonka; his grandchildren, Hayley (Lincoln), Angelo Joseph, affectionately known as AJ by all (Rachel), Brittany (Niko), Bradley, and Mason; and his great-grandchildren, Ainslee, Greyson, and Corbett.

His legacy of hard work, artistic talent, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Celebration of Life for Werner is scheduled for September 5, at 11 am at Fountainhead Funeral Home, located at 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909.
