James Jerome (Jim) French was born July 7, 1939. He was a science teacher at Beech Grove (Indiana) High School from the early 1970’s until his retirement in May, 2005. Jim enjoyed teaching science and chemistry and pioneered new programs for his students at Beech Grove. His wry sense of humor and his friendliness were well-known among his friends and colleagues in the school district. Having lost a leg to diabetes, Jim never allowed his disability to slow him down. He was an active member of the Beech Grove Classroom Teachers Association and the Indiana State Teachers Association. After his retirement Jim relocated to Clearwater, Florida, where he took up permanent residence. He was a long-time member of the National Rifle Association, and for many years participated in nationally-sponsored competitions. Jim was a resident of South Gate Village in Clearwater and served as an officer in their resident council. He also taught science at St. Petersburg College for several years. He leaves behind family members and many former students and close friends in Indiana, Florida, and elsewhere. Arrangements were entrusted to Moss Feaster Funeral Home and Crematory. As Jim requested, no formal services will be held, but friends are invited to donate to the charity of their choice in Jim’s name.
