I met Karen when I was 16 years old through her son Rick. We had dated for a year in high school. Then about a year ago we crossed paths again, this time at my hospital where I work. She recognized me immediately! I just couldn’t believe it, she opened up her arms and gave me a big hug. I would go and visit her often, we just sit and hold hands and she would tell me about her grandkids. Whenever she would return to the hospital we would simply just catch up where we left off. I felt blessed to get to be there for her and make her feel more at ease being somewhere other than her home. She always thanked me for coming to see her. I am grateful for the time we got to spend together and for being there for Rick, Danielle, Mikey and all the kids. She is at peace now and back with her husband watching over all of us. She was a kind, sweet, thoughtful woman who adored her entire family.
