He moved as a pre-teen to the Monterey Peninsula with his Aunt Marguerite, they settled in the City of Seaside. George graduated from Monterey High School; enlisted into the United States Army during the Korean War; he was a Corporal; honorably discharged as a veteran of that war. During his Army career he married the wife of his youth, Margarete June; they dated during high school. While stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, George became a father to his first daughter, Marchel Elaine who is his surviving next of kin. He would go on to raise two more daughters, Monette Denise and Glynis Renee; along with a son, these children preceded him in death.
George was a hands-on father who encouraged his daughters to have independent thinking, to travel and to explore this world we live in, and do their unlimited best; his love for California and particularly central California remained, he was making plans to return to that area, according to his grandson, Anthony Snyder prior to his death.
George remarried in May of 1996, to Martha Grimes and he had found his match! They were ideally suited, they were retired and were up for more adventure, and they loved to talk, no one was a stranger. He and Martha spent eight years on the road in their fifth wheel recreational vehicle, which was pulled by a large big rig truck. He told great stories about being in tight places and having to turn the two vehicles around without falling off a cliff wall; Martha, at this time had failing eyesight, but she stood outside giving him directions! Travel and talking to people were the most common threads in their lives. They had a great time camping throughout the United States, traveling together.
George will also be remembered for his relationship with his God! He may have had an issue with pastors, but he had no problem with being in service to the Lord, either singing in the choir or at his ushering post, Martha was a great influence on her husband in this area, we are grateful.
George loved being a tour guide and photography which supplemented his retirement income pictures of weddings, family reunions, RV, and church gatherings. While traveling he and Martha, artistically photographed lighthouses, landscapes, campsites, and other campers for income.
Martha’s declining health led them to settle in Palmdale, California. It is here that George and his platinum blond ponytail helped him stand out from the rest, as he and Martha became card carrying SAG union members and it was lights, camera, action and catered meals!
George was made of strong stuff. He was a committed caring husband to both of his wives until they were called to be with the Lord, both who preceded him in death in 1992 and 2020, respectively.
George was also preceded in death by son, Maurice; daughters: Monette Snyder and Glynis Beavers; mother: Aurelia Bonner Beavers; aunt: Marguerite Bonner Porter; uncles: Jim and Lukas Bonner, and sister: Rozelle Allen.
George left to mourn his sudden passing: Marchel Richey, daughter-; Donna Jones Pointer, honorary daughter; 4 sets of former in-laws: 3 nieces and nephews each; 3 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 4 great-granddaughters; 3 great-grandsons; 1 great-niece; 4 great nephews, and a host of friends that span the United States as a result of his 86 years of travel and his willingness to introduce himself to anyone, so I imagine he is quite busy in heaven!
George died suddenly in an automobile accident at the scene, what irony? That’s God’s grace and mercy. We will be holding his memorial service on a future date.
Also, please join our families as we continue to pray for the other driver and his family as they move through this event.
