Steven Michael Applegate

October 28, 1947 – January 13, 2025

I'm heartbroken to share with the community the news of Steve’s passing. He passed away Monday, January 13th, 2025.

Steve is survived by his spouse Linda Applegate, sisters Judy Parris and Michele Olivares, son Michael Applegate, step daughter Michelle Johnson, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Steve was born in Spokane Washington to Thomas Applegate and Joan Hilbert. He grew up in Spokane, graduating from high school before attending Gonzaga University and Chapman World Campus Afloat. After college he continued his pursuit in the mastery of golf. He spent 2 years on the Australasian Tour and enjoyed his time competing, learning, and traveling. Steve then brought his talent and passion to the Antelope Valley where he served in the Air Force Reserves at Edwards Air Force Base then went on to start a family, owned local businesses, and developed his golf career.

Playing, competing, and teaching golf has always been a passion for Steve and it was through this that he taught many lessons about the game and life itself. He spent the last 40+ years as the head golf professional at the Antelope Valley Country Club where he also served as a general manager. Steve recently received 50-year membership recognition from the PGA. A few years ago, Steve retired but still made regular visits to the Country Club, where he continued to work on his game and play with his Tuesday group of close friends.

Words can’t fully express the profound impact Steve had on those around him. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, golf professional, and dog lover. Steve was a true leader, setting the standard by example. Three words that come to mind are integrity, consistency, and patience- qualities that he demonstrated in all that he did. His legacy and influence on all of us will not be forgotten.

Per Steve’s wishes there will be a small private family service.

The Steven Applegate Memorial Scholarship Foundation is being created in his honor to recognize a deserving high school graduate with a passion for golf and goals for college. Further details will be shared soon for those who would like to participate.
