Alice S. Gibbons

Alice S. Gibbons of Paoli, PA passed away peacefully on March 2, 2019 at age 89. Born August 1, 1929 in Baltimore, MD to Eugene and Esther (Christensen) Schaal, Alice spent most of her childhood in Lansdowne, PA, where she made lifelong friends whom she treasured. Especially important among them was D. Barry Gibbons, her husband of 43 years, who preceded her in death.

After graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Alice pursued a career in elementary education before moving to Media, PA where she devoted her life to raising her own children. She had a passion for travel that began with summer trips to visit her cousins in Wisconsin and extended to destinations all over the world. She loved a good party, appreciated good people, and always knew how to share a laugh.

In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Schaal and Byrdie Sexton. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Stephen (Lisa) of Wayne, PA, Karen (Peter Reich) of Brooklyn, NY, Nancy Smith of Seattle, WA, Barbara Willis (David) of Glendale, AZ, and Jennifer (Robert Segedy) of Pittsboro, NC. Also surviving are nine well-loved grandchildren (Colin, Sarah, Tess, Skylar, Luke, Trevor, Ted, Natalie, and Dana) and one great-grandchild, Judah.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on June 10 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis De Sales Church in Lenni, PA. A lunch gathering will follow at 1:00 PM at Barnaby’s Aston.
