Born January 9, 1946, in Seattle, Washington, to William Schellhas and Hazel M. Berry, Andrew “Andy” Schellhas grew up in the Rainier Beach neighborhood of South Seattle. He graduated from Rainier Beach Junior-Senior High School in 1964, then attended Grays Harbor College, where he played football before joining the U.S. Army in 1965. Andy served two years in Korea and earned the rank of Sergeant.
After returning home in 1967, Andy married the love of his life, Mary Susan Fowler of Bellevue, on July 20, 1968. Known to all as Sue, she and Andy shared nearly 57 beautiful years of marriage — a bond filled with deep love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Andy had a long and successful career in the computer software industry, where he thrived in sales and leadership roles. He especially treasured the years he worked side by side with his daughter Carmen. After retirement, Andy found great joy on the golf course, especially during the time he spent playing with his son Drew and made dozens of close friends! Golf became one of his favorite pastimes — not just for the game itself, but for the meaningful moments and conversations shared out on the course.
He was a proud and loving father to Carmen (Schellhas) Tomovcsik and her husband John, and to his son Drew Schellhas and wife Lisa. Andy absolutely adored his grandchildren — Jessica, Andrew (AJ), Quentin, and Addison — and cherished every moment spent with them. He loved to take them fishing and would spend any time he could with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories and sharing his love of the outdoors and life with them.
Andy was preceded in death by his sisters Lorna, Alice, Marjorie, and Ruthie, and his brothers William (Bill) and Jack. He is survived by his sister Cynthia (Cyndy) Schellhas Manning and brother-in-law Harold (Skip) Manning of Lacey, Washington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Andy was a man full of joy, generosity, and warmth. Known as the life of any gathering, he had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. He gave freely of himself to all who needed him and lived a life rich with meaning, laughter, and connection.
He was deeply loved by all who knew him — and he will be missed beyond words.
A service for Andrew will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Eleanor Catholic Church (647 Locust St, Collegeville, PA 19426). Mass will begin at 11:00am, and a Celebration of Life will immediately follow at Troubles End Brewing (50 W Third Ave STE 310, Collegeville, PA 19426).
