Born Ruth Ann Jones, the oldest of four girls, to Dr. Nelson and Jean Jones of Paoli in 1940. She prided herself on her academic and athletic prowess, including being part of the first women’s lacrosse team at Conestoga High School graduating in 1958. Day one placement testing at Duke University, she and sophomore proctor, Lee “Sy” Seybert, exchanged glances and the tale of love at first sight continued until his passing in 2024. After graduating in three years, Ann’s teaching career began at General Wayne Junior High, followed by a job at Wyeth Laboratories, being a co-owner of The Bailiwick, the arrival of daughter, Erica, and nine years later son, Doug, tutoring math all the while. In 1980, Ann earned her master’s degree in computer technology from Villanova while working for Sun Oil, and ultimately, she returned to teaching at Valley Forge Middle School until her retirement in 1997.
Ann and Sy married and resided in Berwyn for 56 years moving to Dunwoody Village in 2017. Countless hours were spent in her garden, decorating their home, doing needlepoint and volunteering with her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, The Junior League, St. David’s Church and helping family and friends. During retirement, she and Sy traveled the United States while she and her friend, Nancy Atchison, traveled the world. Ann was a lifelong learner, constantly taking classes and reading books until Alzheimer’s arrived shortly after they moved to Dunwoody.
Her beloved sisters, Judy Wilder, Robin Vaughn and Linda Noble, were her first and forever friends. Mom will be dearly missed by her daughter, Erica, son-in-law, Brad and grandchildren, Chris and Victoria, son, Doug, daughter-in-law, Tracy, and grandchildren, Kate, Jack and Charlie. How grateful we are for the loving care Mom received from the Dunwoody staff. Our hearts hold tightly to the vision of Mom finally being reunited with her beloved “Sigh” as she often addressed her Hallmark cards to him.
A service will be held in the little St. David’s Church on Friday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. with The Reverend Thomas Szcerba officiating. Inurnment will be private at Good Samaritan Church. For those wishing to donate in Mom’s memory, please make checks payable to Dunwoody Village, with Employee Appreciation Fund on the memo line, and direct them to Ms. Josie Singer at Dunwoody Village, 3500 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073.
