

Bernie Haughey, age 84 of Berwyn, PA, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in Chester, PA to Bernard and Almeda (Perry) Haughey on August 21, 1938. He attended Saint James High School in Chester, PA and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Saint Joseph’s University. While attending Saint Joseph’s, he worked at Ingleneuk Tea House in Swarthmore, PA where he met the love of his life, Edna Carr. They married and shared 62 wonderful years. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He started employment with State Farm Insurance Company in 1963, serving in several positions until his retirement in 2011 as an agent. He was also a member and past-president of the Springfield Ambulance Corps.
Bernie is predeceased by his parents Bernard and Almeda Haughey and his sister Margret Stegnerski. He is survived by his wife Edna Carr Haughey of Berwyn, PA and his 3 children: Bernie Haughey (JoAnna) of Berwyn, PA, Chris Haughey of Chester Springs, PA, and Beth VanBuren (Mike) of Plymouth Meeting, PA. He was blessed with his seven grandchildren who brought him great joy: Melanie, Eric, Brendan, Madeline, Katie, Mary, and Alyssa.
Bernie and his wife Edna created an amazing family and instilled a strong sense of togetherness. He enjoyed bike riding, including rides to the Jersey Shore, motorcycling along the East Coast, being in nature and walking through Valley Forge Park. Bernie took great pleasure in having his family over for cookouts and watching his grandchildren in the pool. He looked forward to joining his State Farm buddies for breakfast and lunch. Bernie will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him. He created wonderful memories with everyone that met him. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie’s name may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) or St. Jude (stjude.org).
