Passed away on February 15, 2023, after a brief illness.
Daniel was born on March 21, 1960, to Eugene and Regina Maurer in Philadelphia. After Dan graduated from Brandywine High in 1978, he studied Radio, TV, and Film at Temple University. Daniel spent a semester in London, described as a highlight of his college years.
Daniel had various jobs upon graduation but then joined the staff of Overbrook School for the Blind as an Accountant and Payroll Supervisor for more than 35 years. Daniel had recently retired from his position at the school.
Daniel met Barbara Paton at Overbrook School for the Blind. They were married on September 24, 1999. Daniel and Barbara went on to have one child, Paton Eve Maurer. They resided in Villanova, PA, and moved to Berwyn, PA in 2005.
The artist side of Daniel had a deep passion for movies, books, and the world of fashion. He knew the best in designer clothing and shared that love with his wife. You could find Dan sitting at the dining room table, streaming movies and TV shows. A beach lover, he spent his childhood in Ocean City and later with his wife and daughter. They also spent time as a family at his in-law's home in Toms River, NJ. He enjoyed traveling locally and, having been to Greece and Hawaii, longed to continue his international travels in retirement. Referred to as Uncle Duck by his nieces and nephews, Daniel was a quiet, unassuming person with a good sense of humor.
Daniel was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Regina Hamer Maurer. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Paton Maurer, and his daughter, Paton Eve Maurer. Daniel is also survived by his siblings Judy Maurer Smith, Eugene Maurer Jr. (Carol), Marita Maurer Brown (Gary), Kevin Maurer (Karen), Dana Maurer Price, MaryKate Maurer Smiley (Tony), and Thomas Maurer (Emily).
