August 12, 1954 – June 28, 2025
Daniel Joseph McMonigle, affectionately known as “Big Dan,” of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 12, 1954, Dan was one of twelve siblings raised in the close-knit community of Stone Harbor, New Jersey. From an early age, he embraced the values of faith, service, and loyalty—principles that guided his life and shaped the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind. Dan was the devoted husband of JoAnne (Reimel) McMonigle, with whom he shared 44 years of love, laughter, partnership, and faith.
He built a respected 40-year career in real estate, thoughtfully helping families find their forever homes. A true “Man for Others,” Dan lived a life marked by generosity, kindness, and joy. He believed in the power of showing up, giving back, and loving unconditionally. He truly left a lasting impression on everyone whose life he touched.
Deeply committed to his community, Dan was an active Rotarian, a proud member of St. Monica Parish Holy Name Men’s Club and the Catholic Grandparents Association, and a dedicated board member with the Martin de Porres Foundation. A man of strong faith, Dan had a deep devotion to Padre Pio.
Dan embraced all things fun. He was never happier than when surrounded by family and friends—whether down the shore, cheering on the Phillies, enjoying live music, or spoiling his grandchildren. He looked forward to weekly breakfast club meet ups, supporting the School of Rock, and traveling to Austin, TX attend the annual Austin City Limits Festival.
He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnne; his children: Danny Jr. (Erica), Caitlin (Jeff), Timothy (Alex), and Wayne; and his five adoring grandchildren: Ramona, Elliot, Sienna, Maya, and Zeke. He is also survived by his siblings, Dottie Gionetta, Norma Clarke, and Jack McMonigle; his cherished mother-in-law, “MIL” Anne McCloskey Reimel; his dear brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and an extraordinary circle of friends all who will forever miss his steady presence, generous heart, and joyful spirit.
He now joins a festival of angels, including his parents, Arlene and John McMonigle; eight of his beloved siblings; his baby son, Patrick, his angel donor, Amy Cuellar Reilly and many loved ones who welcomed him home.
A Memorial Mass will be held 12pm on Saturday, July 12, at St. Monica Church in Berwyn, PA, with reception to follow. In true Dan fashion, all attendees are encouraged to wear something that connects them to him and to one another—whether it’s a Rotary polo, a real estate shirt, a concert or festival tee, beach gear from Avalon or Stone Harbor, or even just a pair of slip-on Vans. Let’s come together as the vibrant community Dan loved, each person wearing a piece of his story.
To celebrate Dan’s love for the beach, a paddle-out surf circle will be held on Saturday, August 9, in Stone Harbor, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Dan’s memory to:
