Dolores Jane Paris (née Solomone), a beloved resident of Maris Grove in Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025 at the age of 91. Dee, as everyone knew her, lived a life of deep faith and quiet determination, centered on her love for the Lord.
She was born on December 11, 1933 in Windber, PA, one of seven children of Domenica and Vincenzo Solomone. The Solomone family moved to Philadelphia in the 1940’s. There, she met the love of her life, Isaac William Paris, (Bill), when they were students at Overbrook High School. On January 2, 1954, Bill and Dee married at Overbrook Assembly of God, in a church building that was constructed by members of both of their families.
Dee and Bill lived a joyful life in Brookhaven, PA raising two sons, James and Mark, cooking, traveling and serving their church until Bill tragically died of cancer in 1978. After this devastating loss at the age of 44, Dee gathered the strength to rebuild her life. She focused her energy on her sons, her grandson, her work, her church and worldwide travel with beloved friends and family.
In 1990, the Lord blessed Dee with a new life partner, Alex Thomson, who became her husband on May 22, 1993. Alex’s family welcomed Dee with open arms and she became a beloved stepmom to his four adult children; grandmother to his grandchildren; and great-grandmother to their children. Alex and Dee enjoyed a rich life together in Brookhaven, PA and Bethany Beach, DE, full of family, friends and travel until Alex passed away on January 17, 2011.
In addition to caring for her immediate and extended family, Dee earned a degree in Accounting at Widener University. She served for more than 45 years as a bookkeeper and treasurer for many organizations, including: First Federal Savings and Loan; Wallingford Center for the Blind; Associates in Anaesthesia at Crozer-Chester Medical Center; and Dagsboro Electric and Plumbing. She also provided her accounting and bookkeeping skills as Treasurer for Evangel Assembly of God in Glenolden, PA and Millville United Methodist Church in Millville, DE.
Dee is deeply missed by her son James Paris and his grandchildren by marriage to his late wife, Bettyann Swiatek, Mafer and Sebastian Swiatek; her son Mark Paris and his wife Tammy Bormann; her beloved grandson, US Army Lieutenant Christian Bormann Paris ; the Thomson children, including Kathleen and Curt Jeschke, Mary Beth and Jerry Shedletsky, Joe and Donna Thomson, and Marty Thomson; and the Thomson grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also deeply missed by three generations of Paris and Solomone uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews who adored Aunt Dee Dee. She will also be missed by her friends and wonderful caregivers at Maris Grove.
A memorial service to celebrate Dee’s life will be held at the Maris Grove Chapel in Glen Mills, PA on Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 am, with a visitation at 10 am. A repast will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor Dee’s lifelong commitment to mission work by welcoming donations in her memory to UMCOR: The United Methodist Committee on Relief (umcmission.org)
