Dorothy Virginia Boswell Hawley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was 94.
Dottie was a beloved member of the Paoli community for over 70 years. For more than five decades, she was a devoted member of The Church of the Good Samaritan, where she found faith, friendship, and purpose.
A proud graduate of Lower Merion High School, Dottie was known even then for her energy and involvement—whether on the field hockey team, in student council, or with the Kennel Club. She went on to earn her nursing degree from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, beginning a career that spanned 40 years. Her compassion, skill, and steady presence touched countless lives, both in her work and in her everyday kindness.
Dottie had a special love for the Jersey Shore. From her childhood summers in Seaside Park to later years spent at the family’s home in Stone Harbor, the ocean was her happy place. She loved the sound of the waves, the salt air, and the memories made there with family and friends.
Dottie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William (Stubby) Noble Hawley Sr.; her son, William Noble Hawley Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Beth Hawley, and two grandsons, Charles Dillon and Robert Austin Hawley.
She is survived by her loving sons, Robert Boswell Hawley (Marie) and Charles Warren Hawley (Terri O’Connor, longtime life partner); her grandchildren, Amy McDermott (Matt) and Drew Hawley (Carly); and her great-grandchildren, Eloise McDermott & Oliver McDermott.
Her family will forever remember her warmth, her quiet strength, her wonderful sense of humor, and the way she made every gathering feel like home.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dottie’s extraordinary life at The Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 West Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA 19301, on Saturday, February 7. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Paoli Hospital Foundation, Employee Excellence Fund: https://giving.mainlinehealth.org/ways-to-give/paoli-hospital-foundation#donate
