Dorothy Yonrue Liu-Bottary, MD, was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, on January 26, 1989. She passed away from an unexpected complication of a chronic medical condition February 22, 2024, at the age of 35.
Dorothy received her undergraduate degree from University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Commonwealth Honors College in 2011. After graduation she worked as a Math Teacher for Teach For America in Providence, Rhode Island.
She received her medical degree from The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2017. She completed a General Surgery Residency at UMass Memorial Medical Center in 2022 followed by a Trauma Fellowship at Temple University before joining the faculty of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Fall 2023.
Dorothy’s friends and family will remember her unwavering kindness and generosity, steady friendship and unrivaled ability to nap. Her sense of humor touched all who knew her; she was quick to laugh and had a keen eye for funny details. To know her was to love her.
Dorothy asked for very little and gave until the end. Though she herself had little bandwidth and even less spare energy, she made time for those she cared about and for. Her generosity and fervor for life provided comfort to all those around her. She quietly managed her own needs, not wanting to impose on others, even when she was the patient.
Dorothy's memory is carried on by her husband Ryan and their cat Gerry; parents Stephen (KB) and MiAnne; siblings Stephen and his wife Liane, Diane, her husband Mason, and their kids Lena, Beau, and Noe; parents-in-law Alice and Michael; and sister-in-law Ana, her husband Devin, and their daughter Viviana.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Alleva Funeral Home, 1724 E. Lancaster Ave, Paoli, PA 19301.
