Dorothy (Dottie) W. Spencer of West Chester, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the age of 88. She led a life full of faith, and full of love for family and friends.
Dottie found joy in being together with those she loved, whether it was with her much loved husband Bob of 65 years, spending time with her children and grandchildren, or keeping in touch with extended family, friends, and her Bible Study groups. She delighted in planning family get-togethers, and organizing family vacations with itineraries which she meticulously saved for decades. Dottie is survived by her husband, Bob; her children Jennifer (Tim) and Jeff (Elaine); her grandchildren Brian, Alex, Clarisse (Max), and Adam (Erin); her great-granddaughter Kelce; and her cousin Betty Earl whom she loved as a sister; as well as nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Dottie’s unshakeable faith was the foundation in everything she did. She often had spiritual lessons to teach us, whether spoken or by her example. She lived by the motto of “Actions Speak Louder Than Words,” which led her to many random acts of kindness including sending cards or personal notes to friends and family near and far.
She often said, “Somebody Ought to Do Something.” This led her to numerous volunteer opportunities at Paoli Presbyterian Church, including teaching Sunday
school teachers how to teach, supporting church staff through local and regional Personnel Committees, teaching the littlest ones at church, volunteering in the church office, and participating in Bible Study. Her passion was co-leading a ministry to help others discover their own gifts. With Bob at her side, she also spent many hours volunteering her time at the Wilmington & Western Railroad, and at the American Helicopter Museum.
Dottie always had a meticulous attention to detail. She spent 26 years as the Administrative Assistant to the Head of School for Westtown School. She also was “Clerk of Session” at Paoli Pres for many years, keeping minutes for the governing body, and records that a church needs to have but few realize are required.
Dottie has asked that you take some time and thought to discover what your own gifts might be. Then, use those gifts to serve and care for others.
A celebration of life will be announced in the near future and will be held at Paoli Presbyterian Church, Paoli PA.
