She was born in 1940 to the late Earl Woodrow Muck, Sr. and Marion Helene Rubright Muck in Roxborough, PA.
Earlene’s fondest childhood memories were those of Glen Echo Park. Her grandparents lived there and she would visit often. She would have free run of the park where her Grandpop had helped build the Coaster Dip and ran it as well. She especially loved the carousel with its magical music and probably rode every horse, animal and sat on all the seats of that carousel during the ten years she went there.
Earlene was an excellent poet and an amazing short story writer and storyteller. She could memorize, even in her later years, long form poems and scripts like Little Orphan Annie, A Goblinade, and The Night Before Christmas, which she would recite to family and friends at Halloween and Christmas yearly.
Earlene was an excellent cook and baker, and was very hospitable to whoever came over to the house. Her variety of Christmas cookies was second to none!
She did a lot of traveling with her husband Richard throughout their marriage and especially enjoyed cruises and also trips to Jamaica.
In her younger days, she was known for entertaining people with her singing – she would sit in with bands and her song of choice was usually “Bill Bailey.”
She worked for many years as a branch manager at B.A.R., Broadcast Advertising Reports and later as a medical receptionist. She supported her husband with his hoagie business, “Dick’s Sandwich Shop” and “Richard’s Place.”
Most of all, Earlene was known for being a loving and kind soul to so many people. She was always carrying out God’s plan to love and help others. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her baby daughter, Valerie Joy Travis and her grandson, Tracey’s son, John A. Arrell, III.
Earlene leaves behind to cherish her memory: Her daughters, Elizabeth Gail Davis and her husband Bill Davis; Tracey Travis Lee and her husband Robert C. Lee and their children, Erik Robert Lee and Sabrina Lee; John’s girlfriend Katie Pajerowski and their daughter (Earlene’s great granddaughter, Victoria Paje Arrell), and Katie’s children Layla and Sawyer Atkinson; Melissa Thompson and her husband Bob, and son Blane; Chelsea Lee and her fiancé, Neil Gibson and their children, Olivia and Kori Gibson, and siblings, Earl “Buddy” Muck and Marion Muck Helphrey and her husband Dan Helphrey and daughter Jessica.
A POEM BY EARLENE ELIZABETH TRAVIS
Written in memory of her beloved Mother
Death is destiny they say,
A time when life is ripped away.
As the last leaf on a tree when it is blown astray.
It is NOT an ending, But an undenying time.
Liken to the morning glory which closes on it’s vine.
It is a beginning! Of wonders yet to see.
Progress to your Creator now, for easier it will be.
So do not grieve for me my friends, happy I will be,
When God outstretches his loving arms, and reaches down for me.
