

March 5, 2022 - Earlie S. “Earl” Everhart Jr, 89, of West Chester. Earl was born in Lexington, North Carolina to Earlie S. Sr. and Nellie (Young) Everhart. Earl was raised in Lexington and graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and embarked on a lifelong career in the design and manufacture of fire apparatus.
Earl worked for many of the major apparatus manufacturers, including Oren, Mack, Maxim, National Foam, Hahn, Hendrickson, FMC, Middleboro Fire Apparatus and Pierce, and spent the last 23 years of his career as an owner of Vermont Fire Technologies in Williamstown VT. Earl dedicated his life’s work to firefighter safety and the design of innovative fire apparatus. He was past president of the Fire Apparatus Manufacturer’s Association and served on the committee for the NFPA 1901 Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus. Earl also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Lexington NC Fire Department, the Lakeville MA Fire Department, and the Goshen Fire Company in West Chester PA, where he served as Chief Engineer, Board Member and Treasurer. Earl also served as chair of the Lakeville MA School Committee during the 1960’s.
Earl married his high school sweetheart Bobbie Carole (Swing) on June 25, 1955, and they shared 52 years of marriage until her passing in 2007. In addition to his late wife and parents, Earl was predeceased by his sisters Mary Nell and Louise and his daughter Amanda. Earl is survived by sons Grant (Joanne) of West Chester PA and Maj. E. Sherman III (US Army Ret.) of Middleborough MA, sister Beth Glass of Greensboro NC, grandchildren Michael Everhart (Jenna), Casey and Maddy Gilligan, Chris Erb, Clayton Erb (Tina), and great-grandchildren Jack, Theo, Kaylee and Malcolm. Earl is also survived by his beloved Bedlington Terrier, Diamonds.
The family would like to thank Earl’s Vermont “family” for their care and friendship for the past two decades. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goshen Fire Company of West Chester PA or the Central Vermont Humane Society in East Montpelier VT.
The family will receive guests after 1:00 pm, Friday March 11, 2022 at the Alleva Funeral Home Inc. 1724 E. Lancaster Avenue Paoli, PA 19301. Funeral Services will begin at 2:45 pm.
