Passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022.
Ted was the son of the late Lawrence Lewis Stevens and Dorothy Poole Watrous. He attended
The Haverford School where he played basketball and football. Having graduated at the young
age of 16, he continued his education studying Political Science and Philosophy at Denison
University in Granville, Ohio. After working as a social worker in Bedford Stuyvesant, New York
City, he decided to pursue his MBA at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Ted began his long standing financial career at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City where
he met the love of his life, Sue. Having worked in the financial industry for over 50 years, he
retired as a Managing Director of BlackRock. He will fondly be remembered by his family for
repeatedly saying that “Stocks are better than bonds are better than cash”.
Always on a quest for knowledge , when he retired at the age of 72 he attended classes at
Villanova University and finished many online classes as well. Ted also returned to his roots as
a social worker and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for Surrey in Devon, Pa. His
compassion for the Wheels on Meals recipients led him to become a Stephen Minister.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Susan Stevens (nee Collins),
daughters, Heather Stevens Kellogg (Ed) and Lindsey N. Stevens Zeller (Mike) and brother,
Mark Stevens. His most cherished role in life was that of being Granddaddy to Noelle, Melanie
and Eleanor Zeller, and Bradley, April and Wesley Kellogg.
We are forever thankful for the organ donor who unselfishly gifted Ted a new heart in 2009. He
received an extra 13 years of life to live with the people he loved most. At Ted’s request, his
memorial service will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to The Gift of Life
Howies House, [email protected].
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AllevaFuneralHome.com for the Stevens family.
