Edward Francis “Ed” Welsh, 87, passed away on Saturday May 12, 2018. Ed was born on December 12, 1930 in Abington, Pennsylvania to the late James J. and Stella (Latz) Welsh. Ed graduated from Temple University High School, attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and graduated from LaSalle University. He began his career with Armstrong Cork Company in New York City, but quickly moved to The West Company in Phoenixville, PA where he worked for over 35 years.
After meeting at the Sagamore Resort in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Ed married the love of his life, Margaret Mary (Peggy) Murphy, on June 9, 1956. They started married life in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, and shortly thereafter moved to Paoli, Pennsylvania where they lived until their passing. Ed and Peggy shared a love of the theater, attending hundreds of Broadway shows in New York City. Ed travelled extensively for his job with The West Company making friends all over the world. In their later years, Peggy and Ed enjoyed traveling together to Europe, Ireland and Australia. Ed was an active parishioner of St. Norbert's Catholic Church for over 50 years. He was generous with his time and talent, serving on several committees at St. Norbert's, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ed was a blessing as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy on July 8, 2017. Ed is survived by his children Patricia (Terry) Balko, Elizabeth (James) Ferrigno, Michael (Nancy) Welsh, James (Patricia) Welsh, Mary (Gregory) Sendi, and Matthew Welsh; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Jack and Donald, and his brother-in-law William Murphy.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately at St. Norbert's Catholic Church, Paoli, PA. Graveside services will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadephia PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Paoli Hospital, Paoli PA.
