

Elaine M. Quinet passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 71. She leaves behind a legacy of brilliant scientific achievement, artistic grace, and extraordinary personal courage.
Born in New York City and raised in Edison, New Jersey, Elaine blossomed into a gifted scientist. Her academic and professional journey included groundbreaking work at Columbia Medicine before earning her PhD in biochemistry from George Washington University.
During her distinguished career at Wyeth Research, she led a highly successful discovery team, advancing pharmaceutical compounds that remain in clinical use today. A pioneer in her field, Elaine published her findings frequently in medical and scientific journals,while developing biological techniques, earning multiple patents for her innovations.
Beyond her formidable intellect and scientific contributions, Elaine possessed a deep artistic spirit. A talented and athletic dancer in her youth, she performed with the Princeton Ballet. Her lifelong passion for dance continued into her later years as she trained with the Brandywine Ballet, pursuing her art well into her 50s.
Above all, Elaine will be remembered by her family and many friends for her remarkably brave battle against ALS. For more than 18 years as this awful disease progressed, she fought back with knowledge, grace and a fierce inner strength that few possess.
She is survived by her loving partner of 33 years, David Shuey, and her siblings, Robert of New Orleans, Marienne of Knoxville, and James of Sierra Vista. Elaine is buried in Fairfax, Virginia next to her mother.
The world was a better place with Elaine in it.
