Obituary of Ellen M Brown
Ellen M. Brown, age 98, died on January 21, 2023. Ellen was born to Mary and William Barnett on August 28, 1924. She grew up in the Logan section and was a faithful parishioner of Holy Child parish. For 42 years, she was the beloved wife of James H. Brown, the devoted mother to Gary, Gayle Fitch [Nick], Jim [Patty], and Maryann and the doting grandmother to Christopher, Courtney, Ava, Chamberlain, Jim [Hannah], and Patrick, and the great-grandmother of Maeve. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her brothers and their wives Bill Barnett, Barry and Odette Barnette, George and Peggy Barnett, Jack and Helen Barnett, Don and Nancy Barnett, and Ned and Pat Barnett, and her sister and her husband, Mary and Burns Barford. She will be missed by her many family and friends. Shortly after graduating from Little Flower High School, Ellen met Jim Brown, married and dedicated her early life to being a homemaker and supportive parent to her children. She was always there for them, guiding them through their childhood and helping them navigate the challenges of growing up. Ellen worked for 20 years at Immaculata College, first in the mimeograph room, then as the secretary to the director for Alumni and Development. Ellen made many friends at Immaculata and would often talk fondly of her days working there. Ellen loved gardening, attending local art shows, cooking, and hosting parties. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s parish in Malvern, first attending daily mass, and then weekly mass up until December of 2022. Ellen most enjoyed spending time with people she loved. She never turned down an invitation. Although Ellen is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched during her long and meaningful life. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Malvern, PA. Visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment is private. There will be a luncheon following the funeral mass at The Desmond Hotel, One Liberty Boulevard, Malvern, PA.
