Born on April 15, 1937, in Philadelphia, Erick was the son of the late Carl Edward Leonard Rosenberg and Gladys Elizabeth (Marsden) Rosenberg. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elfriede M. (Hilbig) Rosenberg and his three daughters: Karen L. (Rosenberg) Swigart, wife of Steven B. Swigart, Douglassville and their two children, Megan E. (Swigart) Slaidins, and Steven A. Swigart; Sharon L. (Rosenberg) Culp, wife of Curtis J. Culp, Gap and their two children, Curtis J. Culp and Matthew R. Culp; Linda C. (Rosenberg) Tomlinson, wife of Edward A. Tomlinson, Douglassville and their two children, Lauren A. Tomlinson and Kyle E. Tomlinson. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
Erick attended Girard College (Philadelphia) from 1946 to 1955. He was affectionately known as “Ricky”. He graduated from Abington High School in 1955 and attended Pennsylvania State University from 1955 to 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1960 to 1968, during which time he attended Aviation Electronics Tech “A” School (Naval Air Technical Training Center, Memphis) and logged in over 1800 flight hours as an Anti-Submarine Warfare Air Crewman (Naval Air Station, Willow Grove). He also served 6 months active duty in Norfolk, Virginia. In retrospect, he once noted that he would have joined the Navy right out of high school and made it his career. Throughout his life, he maintained a deep respect for those who serve our country and would always take time to thank those who served.
Erick retired from Prudential Insurance Company of America in 1997, having worked from 1968 to 1997 as an Insurance Agent/Registered Representative and Sales Manager. He also worked as an Insurance Agent at National Life & Accidental from 1964 to 1968. Prior to this, he was employed at various electrical fabrication shops, putting his Navy technical training to use.
Erick had a love of serving his community. In recent years, he often spoke of the importance of volunteerism and giving back to the community. He was a Life Member of the Roslyn Fire Company, joining in 1957 at the age of 20. During his early years of membership, he devoted himself to answering many fire calls. He was also a Life Member of the Goshen Fire Company, joining in 1971, and a Life Member of the Montgomery County Firefighters’ Association, joining in 1958. In addition, he was a Life Member of the Chester County Firefighters’ Association, joining in 1971 and serving as President from 1987 to 1989 and Secretary from 1990 to 1995. He was also a member of the PA State Firemen’s Association from 1962 until his passing. His spirit for serving the community extended to the Chester County “911” Advisory Task Force from 1991 to 1994.
Erick also had a great love for sports. He loved the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles. This love extended to him serving as baseball statistician for West Chester East High School from 1978 to 1994. He attended many of their annual banquets and at one of these banquets they presented him with a plaque to honor him as “East Vikings #1 Fan”. He also served as baseball statistician for West Chester American Legion Baseball from 1978 to 1991. He continued to attend games long after this service ended.
Erick will be remembered by his family at a private service.
