Frank W. Sobota, Jr., 71, of Paoli, PA, succumbed to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on November 23, 2016. Son of the late Frank and Wanda (nee Homich) Sobota of Ambridge, PA, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (nee Murphy); their daughter, Kelly Sobota Wallace; his brother, Tim (Marilyn); his sisters Phyllis (Alex) Larson and Joanne (Ray) Malejko; and several nieces and nephews and their children. Frank was a loving husband and father as well as a friend and mentor to many. After teaching high school chemistry and math for seven years, Frank joined the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad as a chemist in its testing lab. The railroad soon folded into the Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) and Frank was transferred to Philadelphia headquarters as Manager of Environmental Projects. He remained there until Conrail ceased to exist then accepted a similar position with Amtrak, retiring in 2008. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed rooting for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. A funeral mass will be celebrated by family friend Fr. David Driesch of Daylesford Abbey at St. Norbert’s Church, 50 Leopard Road (Rte. 252) in Paoli at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 1.
