Geana Florence Snart was born on the 24th of June 1996 in Austin, Texas. Brian and Gwendolyn, Geana’s parents along with her older brother, Derek; welcomed Geana in a spectacular fashion. In a stunning chain of events Geana was born in just 37 minutes from the time her parents rushed in to the hospital and up to the delivery room. Geana’s unique personality style was born and would continue on throughout her life.
Geana loved everything and everyone around her. She was fascinated by every little thing around her and explored the world with an unabashed style, that would be know as: “That’s Geana, it’s just the way she is.”
Her smile and happy laughter, instantly captured the hearts of people and even all the animals around her. Geana would sing from the instant she woke up in the morning until the late hours after bedtime. Animals loved being around her, listening to her gentle singing voice and wanting to feel her wonderful touch including deer and llamas in Texas to horses, lambs, ducks and chickens on her farms to herds of elk up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Her introduction to musical instruments began early as she watched and listened to her older brother play a cello in school and at his cello lesson after school with Tomasz Rvecvycki and his “Pumpkin Cello” from Poland, Europe. The Pumpkin Cello was later purchased by Geana’s family and would be passed on to Geana when she graduated out of her 3/4 sized cello.
Geana also loved reading and her parents always showered her and her brother with bedtime stories. She would read books and play games endlessly. Teaching her dolls in her imaginary school room was a performance in its self. Harry Potter books were devoured like scoops of ice cream on hot Texas day. She would read them again and again, exposing every little detail, holding lengthy discussion with anyone she could.
Geana loved school and learning about all the things wonderful. She experienced both traditional classroom schooling and homeschooling which she received through her loving mother early on and accredited homeschooling programs.
Geana’s cello skills would gain the most under the firm but loving hand of Mrs. Gloria dePasquale, an accomplished Cellist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Geana earned a place in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra under Louis Scaglione, President and Music Director.
Geana and Allegro, a young girls love of horses. Allegro came into Geana’s world in 2010, after years of wanting a horse of her very own. Together they formed a bond so strong that they often acted as one. Geana would ride and jump Allegro over challenging and difficult obstacles. Often performing jumps that would leave her parents on the very edge of worry. Allegro would watch over Geana and be her support during the many times of troubled waters that laid ahead in Geana’s life. He remains watchful in the families’ farm for his Geana.
She graduated high school and immediately laid out her plans for college. With a bright, strong willed determination she applied to several different music institutions. The Cleveland Institute for Music answered her prayers with a single opening under the guidance of Mr. Richard Weiss .
Epilepsy, the difficult and hardships of a frightening disease. Epilepsy, the forth most common neurological disorder. Hidden from society and often misunderstood, Epilepsy would steal hours, days, weeks and later months of Geana’s life. She fought hard against the disease and the stigma that caused others to shy away and often exclude her from being involved. Ignorance and fear tore at Geana as much as the devastating disease itself. Doctors and medications fought with Geana to over come the disease. Heartaches and sadness, depression and a torn spirit would ultimately over come this young, bright and gifted cellist, that loved to helped others more than herself; even to the end, when she shared the gift of life by sharing vital organs for other in need, as she slipped away.
Geana Florence Snart left us on the morning of the 24th of April in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Her mother, father and brother were by her side. Softly, the news spread and an outpouring of words and support have come from people all over, who’s lives Geana touched in her special way.
