Age 62, Gina died peacefully surrounded by her friends and family on June 15, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born Gina Ferkler, the first of three children, on March 13, 1964, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky to Eileen and Thomas, she grew up in Landsdowne, Pennsylvania. Even at a young age, she was the matriarch of her neighborhood. She would rush home after school to cook and clean for her younger brothers, Tom and John Ferkler, while her parents were at work, before heading out to get into trouble with her best friends, Vicky and Sue, with whom she forged lifelong friendships.
She attended Upper Darby High School and soon after married the love of her life, George “Sonny” Nance (died 1993). Gina and Sonny were the loving parents of four children: George-Eric; Patrick; Kevin; and Ryan. Years after Sonny's passing, she had two more children with John Foster (died 2023), John and Elizabeth, who were the apple of her eye. Gina loved children and being a mother; before she got sick, as her youngest was graduating from high school, she was even considering fostering children because the thought of a home without children in it was too alien to her.
Gina worked for 35 years as a saleswoman, receiving honors as one of the top salespeople in the nation in multiple companies. In her time away from children and work, she enjoyed sunsets at the bay, a glass of red wine, and a game of 500 rummy. Her summers were always spent in Cape May, close to the beach, surrounded by nature and family. Gina had the loudest laugh; you could often hear her as you walked up to a function, sometimes a block away. She was also an extremely accepting person, curious about strangers, and had the amazing ability to make people feel comfortable wherever she was.
Gina was a fiercely stubborn woman, and to know her was to understand that stubbornness can be a virtue. Whether it was in a game of rummy or advocating for her children, giving up was never an option for her. Gina needed this toughness as life dealt her a difficult hand. She was widowed at the age of 27 with four children, and that courage to not give up was the foundation that her family was built on. Gina could often be heard saying, “It's just one thing after another.” Those who knew her learned from her example to remain strong, stoic, and steadfast, come what may. She fought hard until the end. In the last three months, she got to meet her grandson Jonas, and see her daughter graduate from nursing school, bringing her much joy in her last days.
Gina is survived by her six children, George-Eric, Patrick, Kevin, Ryan, John, and Elizabeth, her four grandchildren Kimberly, Kiera, Kyla, and Jonas, her two brothers, Tom and John, as well as her niece and nephew, Crista and Michael.
