Retired Partner- PricewaterhouseCoopers
Glenn Shively, one of the country’s preeminent experts in the healthcare industry died suddenly on Monday, August 31 at the age of 69.
Born in Philadelphia, Glenn grew up in Flourtown. In 1968, Glenn received a BS from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. Following graduation, he served his country proudly as a US Naval Officer on the nuclear powered submarine, The USS Will Rogers. Upon leaving the Navy, Glenn returned to his alma mater and received an MBA in 1973. He then began a long, successful career as a consultant with the Professional Services Firm of Lybrand, Ross Brothers and Montgomery. As the firm grew to become Coopers & Lybrand and eventually PricewaterhouseCoopers, Glenn served as an advisor to many of the most prestigious hospitals and healthcare systems in the United States. He became a partner in 1980 and served as the Firm's National Healthcare Industry Chairman. He also was a member of the Firm’s Council (Board of Directors). He even served as a spokesman for the firm in a 1994 network television commercial that aired nationally.
Upon reaching mandatory retirement age, Glenn turned his attention towards the community. He put his expertise to work as a member of the Board of Project H.O.M.E.,a non-profit devoted to ending homelessness in Philadelphia. Sister Mary Scullion, Project H.O.M.E’s Co-Founder, said “Glenn’s kindness, sensitivity and goodness and great talent were instrumental in bringing the Stephen Klein Wellness Center to fruition with a solid business plan and principles. It will be hard to imagine life without him.” The $18 million Wellness Center opened in December of 2014 in North Philadelphia to provide primary care, dental care and behavioral health care to those most in need.
Additionally, Glenn served on the Committee of Seventy, the Wake Forest University Board of Visitors (where his children attended college) along with boards for The Baldwin School and The Elwyn Institute. He was a passionate lifelong Philadelphia sports fan who was fortunate to be present when the Phillies won the World Series in 2008.
Glenn was a devoted family man and is survived by his beloved wife Debbie, children Chris, Pam and Courtney, and brother, Bruce.
In honor of Glenn's passion and commitment to the mission of Project H.O.M.E. the family requests, that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Project H.O.M.E., 1515 Fairmount Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19130.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 11th at 1:00 pm at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church on Montgomery Ave. Bryn Mawr, PA.
