Paoli, Pennsylvania – Hildegard Dietrich passed away in a circle of her family after a short illness on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Hildegard was born on July 27, 1934 in Hamburg, Germany, the youngest child of Helene and Robert Hugo. She spent her youth in Germany and Austria. Fate brought her to Chicago, Illinois where she met her husband Gundomar, who was born in Berlin, Germany.
From Chicago they moved to Farmington, Connecticut where they spent many happy years building a home and family. Their summer parties were legendary.
Hildegard and Gundi shared a love of travel and visited all the continents with their children, often ending their trips in Germany to visit family, pass on their heritage to their children, and maintain contact with the many friends from their childhood. Their connection to their home was never broken.
Hildegard was an avid bridge player, which she learned at her mother's knee; had the uncanny ability to solve problems and fix any machine; loved to bake; and was the Pied Piper to children, who filled her home across the generations – starting with her daughters.
She is survived by her two daughters, Christina Dietrich and Barbara Powel; her two grandchildren, Robert and Heidi Powel; and her beloved brother Robert who still lives in Hamburg; along with a wonderful bouquet of nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews.
Her friends and family gather to celebrate her life from 10am to noon on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Alleva Funeral Home, 1724 Lancaster Avenue in Paoli, PA
