Born July 19,1931, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Winona C. Erickson, of Paoli.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Folkert H. Kadyk; two children: Charles C. Kadyk and wife Diane of Mohnton, PA and Winona K. Smith and husband Randall M. Smith, Sr. of Honey Brook, PA; 2 Grandchildren: Randall M. Smith, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Philadelphia, and Christina E. Smith of Honey Brook, PA; her sister, Grace E. Wommer, of Allentown, PA; nieces Denise and Renee, nephew Dane, and their families.
Jean attended Paoli Elementary School, Friends Central, and graduated from Radnor High School with the Class of 1949. She received a business degree from Pierce Business School in Philadelphia. Later she worked for the Fidelity Trust Company in Philadelphia as a legal secretary. She resigned from Fidelity in 1961 to raise her family.
As a lifelong member of Valley Friends Meeting, Jean served on numerous committees and as Clerk. She was involved in the Young Friends Movement in the 1950’s and was a leader in the centennial celebration of the Valley Friends current Meetinghouse in 1971.
Jean served as a Volunteer at Paoli Hospital for 31 years and logged more than 10,500 volunteer hours. She was known affectionately around the hospital as “Jeanie Beanie”!
Jean loved to share her singing talents, along with Kert, as founding members of the Main Line Ecumenical Choir, an offshoot of the Main Line Symphony, of which Kert has been a member for 56 years. The music of Johann Sebastian Bach was always a delight for her. She met Kert at the Bethlehem Bach Festival on the grounds of Lehigh University in 1955 and attended the festival for many years afterwards. Mother always said, “I love classical music, so long as it’s Bach!”
She was also a member of the Upper Main Line Ministerium, a group of interfaith area clergy that gather monthly for conversation and sharing resources.
She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed concocting delicious meals for the family parties she loved to host, as well as contributing to the covered dish meals at Valley Meeting. She was also an avid knitter who made innumerable sweaters, blankets, etc. over the years.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
Jean would like to be remembered as someone who gave without question and always felt it was her purpose in life to help others.
