

Joan married the late Bertrum H. Buchanan, Jr. on September 17, 1955. She is survived by daughters, Joyce (Cary) McFall and Jennifer (Steve) Simko, and son, Robert (Andrea) Buchanan, and grandchildren, Sarah Simko, Stephanie (Andrew) McHale and Jackson Buchanan. Her sister, Dorothy L. Andersson, predeceased her.
Joan graduated from Lower Merion High School and received a Certificate in Secretarial Studies from Drexel University. She began her secretarial career at The Atlantic Refining Company in Philadelphia. For several years after her children entered school, she worked for Bodman Chemicals in Narberth. For the next 25 years, she was secretary to the Athletic Director at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, PA, retiring in the fall of 1998.
During her lifetime, Joan had many interests. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the church choir. Joan served as a Library Board Member for the Penn Wynne Library and volunteered for Surrey Services. She loved to play bridge, garden and travel. Lunching with friends was always a highlight. She looked forward to family time and riding her bicycle in Stone Harbor, NJ. Joan also loved playing games with her family. She always wanted to win! Her later years included many hours on her iPad and playing Wordle.
Joan loved her life, her family and her house. She relished staying in touch with family and friends. She especially loved celebrating holidays with her extended family. Her warmth, kindness and deep love for others touched many lives. Joan will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 8th, at 11:30 am at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Ave, Wayne, PA, followed by a reception in the Chapel. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Wayne Presbyterian Church.
