August 10, 1938June 10, 2021

John A. Kakaty, 82, of Paoli, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Theresa.

John was born on August 10, 1938 in Utica, NY, son of the late Joseph and Mary Kakaty. He graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1956 and then attended Niagara University and graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University. He earned a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1965. John practiced dentistry in Utica, NY for 33 years. He lived in West Chester and Paoli, PA and Highland Beach, FL, for the last 23 years.

John served in the U.S. Army Reserves, as a captain, for 8 years. He had a passion for theatre, directing and acting in numerous productions and serving as the President of Players Theatre in New Hartford, NY, for several years. He also served as President of the Oneida Herkimer County Dental Society and the New York State Dental Society. John loved playing golf and tennis and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan from the age of seven, with fierce loyalty to the Phillies and the Eagles.

John so loved his family and took great pride in their accomplishments and their lives. He lived for family get-togethers and loved to tell stories and jokes and re-live the many memories collected over the years. He enjoyed listening to Broadway musicals on 8-tracks in the car and singing along, as well as he could. He was always up for a cold diet Pepsi with lemon and appreciated a good meal with a well-done garlic roll.

John adored his wife of 57 years, and died by her side. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his four children and their spouses, Lisa and Michael Starczewski, Jo Kakaty-Monzo and Michael Lange, John J. and Michelle Kakaty, and Jennifer and Kent Brown, as well as his 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. We have so many memories of family times together- watching you kids grow up and start families of your own. John was always smiling- even when he was arguing with my Mom! I still picture him and my Dad trying to outdo each other eating those soft rolls at the old Mario’s in Highland Beach. What fun we had! We know this has been hard and our hearts go out to you with much love. 💔 Christine, Reid and family

Doc K you will be missed my friend! You were so kind to me especially when I was a young man. You treated me to Syracuse basketball games, dinner after, and most importantly great stories. Your home was always open to me too. So many fun lively Kakaty family conversations. I have always loved having all of them in my life. Know that your passion and drive live on in their lives.
Much love from the Whittemores. God bless you Doc K.

We're very sorry to hear of John's passing. Although we weren't as close for the past several years, we spent at least fourteen close years playing golf and enjoying socializing not only as couples, but also at many family functions and celebrations.
Theresa, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.
