John Brennan Smink, age 89, passed away on 8/2/2026. JB was a long time resident of Dunwoody Village, Newtown Square, PA; Hershey’s Mill, West Chester, PA, and Radnor Township. JB was born on December 26, 1936 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to parents, G. John Smink and Gertrude Brennan Smink. He graduated from Kalamazoo High School in 1955, and from the University of Notre Dame in 1959 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. JB worked as a sales representative for Wheelabrator Fans, later Garden City Fan Company, for over 40 years, where he cultivated his gift of gab.
JB volunteered his time in service to others. As an associate with the Daylesford Abbey, he taught English to immigrants, was a tour guide and host for many Abbey events, and assisted with fundraising. He supported Radnor High School and the sports programs there, including running the clock and scoreboard for countless basketball and football games, timing track meets, and even served as an assistant coach for the baseball team. He was a Radnor sports announcer for the local cable channel, and he emceed many induction ceremonies for the Radnor Hall of Fame.
For many years, JB not only managed The Clucks, a men’s softball league team, he was also a player, coach and mascot for the team. His #5 jersey is retired.
While on the Oversight Board of Hershey’s Mill Golf Club, he instituted the Tuesday duplicate bridge game and luncheon, and the always popular Trivia Night.
JB loved to travel, especially to Aruba in the winter where he could often be found in the casino (at the roulette table).
JB was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Suzanne McBride, and his nephew, Patrick McBride.
JB is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jan, his daughter, Pat Rogowski (Tony) and son, Jerry Smink (Darcy).
A viewing/visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Daylesford Abbey, 220 S. Valley Road, Paoli, PA, followed by a funeral mass at the Daylesford Abbey at 11 a.m. JB will be interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
