John Edward Zomchick Jr.

John was born on August 28, 1968, in Queens, New York, to John and Tina Zomchick. He graduated from Oceanside High School in 1986 and went on to earn a degree in math and economics from the State University of New York (SUNY), Binghamton, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

As a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an enrolled actuary, John worked for several consulting firms in New York City and the surrounding areas. He was known not only for his intelligence but also his dedication and commitment to work.

Those who knew John will always remember his loyalty, quick wit, and sharp sense of humor. He had a lifelong love of sports that began early with family bowling and continued throughout his life. John’s passion for baseball led him to pitch at SUNY Binghamton, and he continued his love of the game by playing softball in various leagues. While living in New York City, he also took up volleyball, playing both in the city and on the beach.

When he was not playing sports, John enjoyed biking, golfing, hiking, and long walks. But his favorite place was always the beach. From childhood days on Long Island to summer weekends on Fire Island, NY and finally Cape May, NJ, he felt most at home on the beach and by the water. He could often be found in a beach chair reading the New York Daily News or Post and working through every puzzle in the paper. When he wasn’t reading, he was usually in the water, trying to catch a wave to body surf or simply enjoying the feel of the sea on his skin.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Zomchick, and his mother, Tina Zomchick.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his sister, Theresa Steer (Martin); and many loving nieces and nephews.

John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
