Karen was born on August 11th, 1960, in Flemington, New Jersey to parents William and the late Rennie Beckman. She attended Voorhees High School where she was a much loved member of the cheerleading squad and musical theatre troupe, and where she met her husband James Dalton (married 1983-2008). Karen received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature in 1982 from Rutgers’ Douglass College, where she met her dear friend and future sister-in-law Denise, whom Karen introduced to her future husband John Dalton. Karen applied her natural people skills, love of learning, and nurturance to her work in special education, project management, and educational tutoring and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Education from Cabrini College in 2010.
Above all, Karen loved spending time with her three children: Elizabeth Dolin, Peter Beckman, and John Patrick Moore. She loved to celebrate each and every holiday with cards, care packages, and parties, and was an expert in planning vacations to Cape May and the Disney theme parks. Karen’s sense of humor, generosity, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be loved, remembered, and celebrated by many friends and family who were blessed to have had her in their lives.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Devon, Pennsylvania on Friday, May 4th. Attendees will be welcomed at 10AM and the service will begin at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Children’s Literacy Institute (https://cli.org/) or Ryan’s Case for Smiles (http://caseforsmiles.org/about-us/).
Karen's family invites you to join them for reception in the carriage house immediately following services
and also to wear the colorful dress or tie of your choice as they will be celebrating Karen's life.
