

She recently moved from Mahopac, New york where she lived since 1980 and was a parishioner of St. John The Evangelist Church and recently joined the Parish of St. Isaac Jogues, Wayne.
She is survived by her husband William Schell, her son Bill Schell, his two children Ryleigh and Casey and his fiance Kathryn Lee. Also, her brother Sean and his wife Ellen and their three children; her sister Christine and her two children and the children of her sister Maureen, as well as, many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and their children and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents John Mathews and Theresa (Rice) Mathews and her sister Maureen Heugel passed last year.
Kathleen was born on November 30, 1952 in the Bronx. She attended Our Lady of Mercy grammar school. She moved north to Yorktown and attended Yorktown grade school. Later moving back to the Bronx and went to St. Raymonds Middle School, where she met her future husband Billy Schell.
She graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan. Then attended the Grace Institute, a secretarial school. She worked at the J.C. Penny corporate office in Manhattan for ten years. During high school she worked after school at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. SOme time after moving to Mahopac she would work as a waitress at MaxL's a German restaurant in White Plains and Heidi's German restaurant in Mahopac Falls.
While working at J.C. Penny she had decided she wanted to be a nurse and made plans to do so. She took courses at Queensboro College in Queens, Westchester Community College in Valhalla, before enrolling in the Pace University School of Nursing in Pleasantville, NY in 1981.
She and her husband moved to Mahopac in 1980, where they lived until recently moving to Pennsylvania to be near their only child and grandchildren. She loved her son and grandchildren completely, as well as her nieces and nephews and their children, her friends and their children.
Kathleen had several ailments in the last few years and was often in a wheelchair. She recently returned to Mahopac to attend her son's Alumni Lacrosse games at Mahopac High School. It was his 25th anniversary from High School. There she reunited with many of her son's friends and their parents. They all welcomed Kathleen with warmly and she was very happy. We have always had a wonderful and warm experience with all from Mahopac High School, St. Johns and the Mahopac community.
She was married for 51 years. She was a happy, kind and outgoing person who made friends easily. She loved to buy baby clothes for our family, friends, co-workers or anybody she met. She might have been a very happy shopaholic.
Kathleen has a large extended family and we could have celebrated birthdays every week with cake and tea. She enjoyed all gatherings and smiled and laughed with everyone.
She will be missed by her friends and family; her cousins, the Mathews, Devlins, Brennans, Loughrans, Flahertys, Kellys and Reillys. "She was my best friend since we were 16 years old" - Bill. Rest in peace and may God bless.
A visitation will be Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 8:30 - 10:00 AM at St. Isaac Jogues, 50 W Walker Rd, Wayne, PA 19087. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.
