Loucia Christou, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Born in Prastio Teis Ammochostou, Famagusta, Cyprus on May 17, 1951. Loucia was the cherished daughter of the late Eleni and Dimitris Dimitriou. She was also predeceased by her dear brothers, Andreas and Kostas Dimitriou.
Loucia spent her early years in Prastio Teis Ammochostou where she worked at Smith’s in her early twenties. Alongside her family, she endured and survived the British Revolution of 1955-1959 and the Turkish invasion of 1974—an experience that shaped her strength, resilience, and deep devotion to family. Seeking a better quality of life and greater opportunities, she later moved to Queens, New York.
After moving to Queens, Loucia worked for Galina, and during this time she met the love of her life, Panagiotis Christou. Together they built a beautiful life, purchasing their first home and starting a family rooted in love and tradition. She was a devoted homemaker who wholeheartedly dedicated herself to her family—raising their daughters, caring for her husband, and nurturing their home. She later re-entered the workforce and worked for Aramark.
Throughout her life, Loucia remained deeply devoted to her faith and church community. She generously gave her time to the Greek Orthodox Church as well as The Ladies Philoptochos Society. She also always offered her help to those in need—young and old alike. Serving others was not simply something she did; it was who she was.
Loucia is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Panagiotis Christou; her two devoted daughters, Effie and Eleni; her son-in-law Brian Nocenti, husband of Effie; and her son-in-law Michael Jurado, husband of Eleni. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of five grandchildren: Lily, Brian, and Ellie Nocenti, and Luke and Theodore Jurado. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and brought her immeasurable joy.
Loucia was known throughout her community for her kindness, selflessness, and generous spirit. She had a way of lighting up every room she entered. Her warmth made everyone feel welcome, and her giving nature touched countless lives. Above all else, her family was her world, and she poured her heart into loving and supporting them.
Her legacy of strength, faith, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
May her memory be eternal.
