Lou was born on June 17, 1951, to Alexander Bruno and Gilda (Palumbo) Bruno. He grew up in Overbrook Park and later made his home in Wayne, where he became a familiar and beloved member of the community. A graduate of Radnor High School’s Class of 1969, Lou built a life defined by service, hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to family and friends.
Throughout his life, Lou was happiest when he was around people. Early in his career he worked for the B. Altman Company and also served as a part-time Auxiliary Police Officer for Tredyffrin Township. He later found a long and meaningful career with the United States Postal Service, first working in Kennett Square and eventually transferring to Wayne, where many in the community came to know him. True to his energetic spirit, Lou always seemed to have a second job or project going—simply because he loved staying busy and connecting with others.
Service to his community was also a defining part of Lou’s life. He volunteered with the Radnor Fire Company from 1968 to 1973 and later served as a fire policeman with the Malvern and Paoli Fire Companies for many years, continuing his volunteer work until about 2020. Lou had a lifelong love of firehouses and the brotherhood that came with them.
Lou met the love of his life, Liz, at a bake sale at their church, Our Lady of the Assumption. What began as a simple encounter quickly grew into something special. It didn’t take long for Lou to realize that Liz was the one he had been waiting for. Within just two months of dating, he asked her to marry him, certain that their bond was meant to last a lifetime.
They were married over Labor Day weekend in 1980, beginning a life together built on love, faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. From that moment forward, Lou and Liz shared a partnership that reflected the very best of what marriage can be — a deep friendship, enduring commitment, and a love that continued to grow through the years.
But more than anything, Lou loved adventuring with his two boys. Some of his happiest memories were made taking his two boys to Valley Forge Park to hike, explore, and spend the day together. No outing was complete without stopping at a firehouse along the way—Lou made it his mission to visit as many as he could across the tri-state area, always making sure his sons got a tour. Years later, he proudly continued that tradition with his two grandsons.
Lou also cherished the time he spent in Cape May, a place that held a special place in his heart. Lou loved time with family and friends. Whether they were taking a drive, watching television side by side, or simply spending quiet time with the people he loved most, those moments meant the world to him.
Anyone who knew Lou knew he had a special gift: he could make a room laugh. Bringing joy to others was one of his greatest pleasures, and that sense of humor lives on in his sons and grandsons. Whether he was telling stories, joking with friends, or relaxing with a Reading Phillies game and a Diet Coke, Lou had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.
Lou will be remembered for his heart of gold, his generosity, and the laughter he brought wherever he went. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend whose presence made life brighter for so many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Gilda Bruno.
Lou is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Antonini) Bruno; his sons, Lex Bruno and his wife Jessica, and their sons Lucas and Chase; and Bob Bruno and his wife Sarah. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and community members who will forever cherish his memory.
Lou’s greatest joy was bringing people together with laughter and love—a gift that will continue through the family and friends who carry his memory forward.
