Lucretia "Sis" M. Scott

Lucretia Morgan Scott, III, affectionately known to family and friends as “SIS,” was the fourth child of the late Alexander Scott, Sr., and Lucretia M. Scott. She was born on August 19, 1940, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. SIS quietly departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Elwyn, Inc., Media, Pennsylvania, her residence for the past 27 years after the passing of her mother, best friend and lifelong caregiver.

“SIS” grew up on Rebel Hill in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania with her mother and father and seven siblings – Alexander, Jr., Arthur, James Douglas, Moses, Lewis, Clarence, “Scotty,” and Carol. “SIS” faced numerous physical and developmental challenges from a young age, but she persevered and attended special education classes provided by the Upper Merion School District for several years. Her eagerness to learn along with her innate joy shined through over the years as she completed tasks that amazed all. Although “SIS” did not know how to read, she had a passion for writing letters, numbers, especially names in multiple composition and address books that she carried in one of many tote bags and/or purses.

Before falling ill, “SIS’ mother, “Mom Scott,” with the support of her sons and other daughter, took “SIS” everywhere. “SIS” traveled across the United States, Canada, and Europe. “SIS” enjoyed trips to the beach, loved Wildwood boardwalk amusements, the circus, the zoo, holiday fireworks and she even participated in “Hands Across America,” and “Earth Day” celebrations.

After her father retired, he, her mother and “SIS” moved to West Cape May, New Jersey. In Cape May, “SIS” would ride her famous three-wheeled bicycle around the neighborhood, greeting everyone she encountered with a “hey girl or boy!” After her father and mother passed away, Elwyn became “SIS’ home. “SIS” learned to do many more things for herself and blossomed. She enjoyed her time spent at the day program (on and off campus) and looked forward to events held at Elwyn, including the annual formal and carnival.

“SIS” was the consummate socialite and lovingly had the inside scoop on everyone in her community. Those who knew “SIS” remember she had a very special greeting for her favorite people: with her warm smiles and playful, sometimes not so light, tickles! These were her beautiful, heartfelt expressions of love. Most notably, “SIS” lived by the motto, “have polaroid will travel!” She went through numerous cameras and took pictures of everyone from her time in Cape May up to and including her years at Elwyn.

“SIS” always knew when it was her birthday. The Scott family celebrated the occasion for decades with an annual pig roast with family, friends and neighbors traveling from near and far. In later years, “SIS” celebrated her birthday with no less excitement at Elwyn with ice cream and cake with other inhouse residents, staff and visiting family.

“SIS” has been a pivotal figure in the Scott family. She left a lasting impression on all those who knew her with her strength and spirit. She lived a joy filled life, owing much to the beautiful, loving care of her beloved family. Until we meet again, “SIS-a-Belle!”

Lucretia Morgan Scott, III was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Alexander Scott, Jr.; James Douglas Scott, Sr. and Clarence “Scotty” Scott. She is survived by siblings: Arthur L. Scott, Sr. (Theressa); Moses Scott; Lewis Scott (Charlesetta); Carol Scott and sisters-in-laws: Shirley Scott, Janet Scott; and Shellye Archambeau; Cousin Juanita and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The strife is o’er,

The Battle is done.

The victory of life is won;

The song of triumph had begun!

Sis has fought the good fight

A viewing will be held at United Church of Christ for Sis Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held immediately following the viewing at United Church of Christ on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM, Matsonford and Old Gulph Roads, Conshohocken, PA 19428. The burial will occur at Rolling green memorial park Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Rolling Green Memorial Park, 1008 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382 following the service.
