Marcia was born on May 29, 1941 in Philadelphia, to John and Dorothy Spellman. She was the wife of Richard Forbes, sister of John Spellman and the sister-in-law to the late George Forbes, Carole Connolly, Elaine Biglan, Gerry Sheppard, Michelle Ciuro.
One of Marcia’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her beloved five children, Richard (Kim), Scott (Stephanie), Doreen (Roy), Allison and Lisanne and her dear grandchildren Lisebeth, Ryan, Nic, Anna, Brooke, Meghan, Michael, Emma, Anderson, Lisanne and Abbey. Marcia and Rick were married for 63 years, they were devoted parents and grandparents who cherished time spent with their family at holidays, birthdays and many other occasions. The love given to their family was unconditional.
Marcia returned to school mid-life, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Gwynedd Mercy College and Master Degree in Counseling at Villanova University. She then went on to work as a therapist for 10 years in a community mental health center where her heartfelt compassion and genuine attentiveness were valued by her clients. During this time, she returned to Gwynedd Mercy College to teach undergraduate courses. She also taught an additional seven years at Montgomery Community College. Teaching was a great passion of Marcia’s, extending care and concern to each of her students. She developed a small private counseling practice, working out of her home. Marcia continued her love of learning into her late 70’s as she audited classes at Villanova University on European and African History.
Summers at the beach were a special pleasure to Marcia. She brought her young children to Sea Isle City and later her family spent summers in Avalon. Spending a long beautiful day on the beach with her family, reading in the afternoon, was a day she truly cherished.
Traveling was also a special treasure in her life. She traveled to many tropical destinations and to Europe with her husband, family and friends, and, on her own. While she had so very many marvelous memories of traveling, her trips to Italy and Switzerland were particularly special.
Marcia’s greatest sorrow was losing her daughter, Lisanne and her son, Scott. Her husband, surviving children and grandchildren filled her with love but she held a very special place in her heart for Lisanne and Scott as she endured the grief of the unimaginable losses.
Marcia felt grateful for the love and support of her family and friends throughout her whole life, conversations and time spent with them was precious to her. She herself expressed love and concern to all, believing in the value of each and every person. She will be missed dearly by all those who loved her.
