Margrett is survived by her children, Thomas Keith Beckett Jr. (Elizabeth), Zenobia Beckett Ryken (Brian), and Jennifer Dube McCallum (William); her grandchildren, Ellen Harrison Beckett (Alexander), Nicole Dube Niford (Bret), Stephen Hart Beckett (Katherine), Christine Dube Austin (Scott), and Margrett Brianna Grace Ryken; and her brothers, Thomas Raymond Kennedy II (Mary Rose) and Lawrence Joseph Kennedy (Marilyn). She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Thomas Keith Beckett Sr; and her brother John Kennedy.
Margrett was the daughter of Zenobia Harrison Kennedy and Thomas Raymond Kennedy of Derby, Kansas. She grew up in Andale and graduated from Derby High School in 1958. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Theater from the University of Kansas in 1963. It was there she met the love of her life, Thomas K Beckett, on her 20th birthday when he asked for her notes in English class. Their whirlwind romance led to a marriage in Derby, Kansas, and a life filled with love and adventure as they raised their three children.
Margrett dedicated herself to her family while also engaging deeply in civic life. She was a lifelong member of the American Association of University Women, an active poll worker, and a steadfast supporter of local political candidates. She had an extraordinary ability to build and nurture communities wherever she went, from North Wales and Lansdale, Pennsylvania, to Chestertown, Maryland, and finally Malvern.
Throughout her life, Margrett nurtured many close and enduring friendships, always knowing who needed a casserole. Margrett’s motherly impact was not just felt by her own three kids, but by countless others who considered her their second mom.
But her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She brought whimsy and joy to her five grandchildren with her delicious baked goods, wonderful craft projects, and amazing story telling both real and imagined. “Camp Grandma and Grandpa” was a highlight every summer in Chestertown, MD, where the grandkids learned to sail, craft, sew, bake, woodwork, and play a mean game of Scrabble or poker—making memories that will be passed down for generations.
In lieu of flowers, Margrett would want you to donate your time to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life for Margrett and her husband Tom will be held Saturday April 5, 2:00 PM, at The High Point at St Peters, 2475 St Peters Rd, Malvern, PA 19355.
