Marion grew up in Brooklyn, New York and majored in Education at Fordham University, where she received her Master’s degree in Speech Education. As of result of her speech training, she became involved in teaching hearing impaired individuals in New York City, but her true vocation was in Elementary Education. She taught for 8 years in the New York City School System and later became the President of the Teachers School Council.
In 1963, the family relocated to Chester County, where she quickly became involved with a group of women on the Main Line who tutored children. Marion led the Title 1 Program, while working from home raising eight children. However, her involvement in the community didn’t stop there.
Marion loved all things artistic, intellectual, educational and enriching and hence became involved with a cultural arts program in Tredyffrin- Eastown Township bringing “Art goes to School” to the school district. Marion presided as President of the Parent Teachers Organization, and later, a board member of the of the Tredyffrin- Eastown School District, and also served as district President for several years. During her service to the School District and local community, she fondly became known as “Mama Paoli”.
When her youngest child was just seven years old, Marion accepted the position of Director for the Juvenile Justice Center in Philadelphia, a federally funded advocacy program for dependent and delinquent children. Then in 1983, Marion turned to Real Estate, and spent most of her career with formally Roach Brothers, now known as Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Fox & Roach Realtors and was awarded the Chester County Realtor, Lloyd V Hooper Humanitarian award in 1994. Marion’s many other endeavors included participating with the Girl Scouts, serving as the President of the Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children, which at the time was the only shelter in Chester County. She also served as the President of the Valley Forge American Association of University Women.
Not only was Marion an inspiration to her eight children, she was to many other children she encountered during her lifetime. Most of them have shared with the family that our mother was a person who helped influence, guide, and mentor them into the adults they are today. “Your Mom was one-of-a-kind and she played a big role in my childhood”.
