It's always difficult when you hear about the passing of a high school classmate, but especially poignant when the classmate was a good friend. Ralph was a genuinely nice and caring person, proud of both his American and German heritages and a consummate Thespian. My condolences to his family, and also to the city of Philadelphia and the many young citizens who saw history come alive through Ralph.

My husband Charley and I were saddened to hear of Ralph Archbold's death. It was my good fortune to have the opportunity to work with Ralph in his Ben Franklin persona on numerous occasions and types of events. He was always most gracious and generous with his knowledge of 18th century history. I always learned something new when I performed with him.
Ralph's charitable side was seen when he went out of his way to visit with nursing home residents gratis. Personally I saw this side when he provided a memorable afternoon for my father, a history buff, when Dr. Franklin met us for lunch at City Tavern. My Dad was being treated for cancer and was about to start his chemotherapy. This visit helped to strengthen his resolve and provided a delightful distraction at that time. For this and all, I will always be grateful to Ralph.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Ralph's family.
May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to his Philadelphia family. Ralph was a favorite Dearborn High School classmate (1960). His life was dedicated to representing Ben Franklin in every way. He will be missed. Claude Dillard

I witnessed Ralph in action many times, always with admiration and some awe at how much he could put Franklin's own words into his presentations. He was a consummate professional speaker, very proud that he had won the National Speakers' Association Award of Excellence (1990), which is a peer judged lifetime recognition. His humor, wit and wisdom will be missed by many who knew him.
