Dick was born on June 9, 1935, in Philadelphia, to parents Wilfrid and Florence. He graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1953. He continued his education, graduating from Penn State University with a degree in political science. He went on to obtain an MA in International Relations, an MS in Education, and a PhD in International Relations, all from University of Pennsylvania. Dick taught for seven years at Harriton High School where he coached crew and soccer before spending 31 years at Montgomery County Community College where he was a founding faculty member.
An author of several books, Dick also worked as a real estate salesman and broker. Dick enjoyed spending time in Stone Harbor, NJ, walking his dogs and getting snapper soup at Henny's. If he saw a familiar face he would greet them with open arms and either the firmest of handshakes or the mightiest of hugs.
Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Sue Marshall (née Baylor) — by his children Doug Marshall (Judy) of Paoli, PA; Debbie Slyne (Pat) of Greenwich, CT; Donna Marshall (Tim) of Hampstead, NC; and David Marshall (Whitney) of Malvern, PA — by his grandchildren John Marshall (Meredith) of Wayne, PA; Brad Marshall of Malvern, PA; Will Marshall of Durham, NC; Liam Slyne and Colin Slyne of Denver, CO; Lindsay Costikyan of Wilmington, NC; Cooper Costikyan of Jacksonville FL; and Graham Marshall and Cole Marshall of Malvern, PA — and by his great grandchild Madeline Marshall of Wayne, PA.
