Known for her kindness as well as her intellect, love of family and friends, and her prowess in the kitchen as well as the garden. Roswitha left her mark on the lives of all who were fortunate to have known her. No one will ever forget her beautiful smile and elegance. She made everyone feel at home.
Roswitha was born in Wuppertal Germany and grew up in Leipzig Germany.
She married Adalbert Griesbach in 1951, and they had Angela Griesbach (Evans) in Leipzig Germany.
Roswitha, fled the former East Germany in 1957 with her husband, daughter, parents, and siblings. The family ended up in Manheim West Germany. From there Roswitha, along with her husband and daughter Angela moved to the USA in 1960 with the help of Michael and Theresa Haas, her husband's sister and brother in-law. Sabine Griesbach (DiSpaldo) was born in 1962 in America.
While working at a local grocery store in the Northwood section of Philadelphia, she found an advertisement on a match book: "Make big money as a computer programmer". She signed up for the computer programming course advertised, and that lead to her employment at Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) as a Computer Programmer.
She divorced, shortly after.
Roswitha met Peter Cresswell at PECO. He still recalls the first day he saw her and said “Wow, that's the one!” impressed with her intelligence, beauty and poise. They married a few months later in 1972 and the rest is a life-long Love Story, and a marriage of 48 years.
After retiring from PECO Roswitha signed up for a program to help recent immigrants to learn English. She was paired with the Wu family. This turned out to be a wonderful friendship for both the Wu's and Cresswell's; a friendship that is still strong today.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Peter said, “just a wonderful woman.”
Roswitha Cresswell is survived by her husband Peter Cresswell, daughters Angela (Joseph) Evans, Sabine (Joseph) DiSpaldo, grandchildren Stephanie (Brian) Schnepf, Gregory (Dana) Maialetti, great granddaughter Sophia Rose Maialetti. sister Ingrid Hennes, brother Gerhard (Heidi) Gruber, niece Beate Gruber, nephews Thomas and Norbert Gruber in Germany, and her adopted family Haobo Wu, Qian Chen, and granddaughter Jessie Wu.
