Sally was a long-time resident of Wayne, PA, and more recently, Devon, PA. She was the only child of the late Charles and Ann (Donovan) Cavanaugh, and was born on September 7, 1942 in Wilmington, DE.
As a child, Sally delighted in her parents' bustling household, often filled with extended family and friends. She regaled in telling stories of her father's pharmacy located in the lobby of the Hotel Du Pont, and how he became the first permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Wilmington, DE. It was this loving foundation from which she determined what would be most important in her life: faith, family, and friends.
After graduating from Ursuline Academy, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Chestnut Hill College. She was working at Wyeth Laboratories in Radnor where she met Donald Strike, whom she married in 1972. She returned to Wyeth in 1992 after her children were raised, retiring in 2004.
Her Catholic faith was the bedrock of her entire life. She was an active member of Saint Katharine of Siena Parish in Wayne, including serving as a Eucharistic minister. She volunteered her time with Helping Other People in Emergency (H.O.P.E.) and St. Martin de Porres Outreach. At St. Monica Parish in Berwyn she participated in Walking with Purpose women’s Bible study, and attended weekly Mass.
In retirement she and Don, along with their beloved dog Bouge enjoyed Indian Rocks Beach, Florida for several weeks during the winters. The rest of the year she and Don played cards and couples golf at Glenhardie Country Club. A loving and generous grandmother, she cared for both of her grandchildren as babies until they were old enough to attend preschool, and frequently watched them for date nights and weekends.
In her later years, Sally was most happy when celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family and in-laws. Her close friends were beloved and a constant presence in her life. She was an avid reader, an enthusiastic Eagles fan, and enjoyed the company of her wonderful neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don (6/28/24). She is survived by her son Brian (Colleen) Strike, daughter Samantha (Gregory) Hansell, grandchildren Tabitha and Griffin Hansell, her cousins Ruth Ellen Marando, Kirsten Strobel and Jimmy Dougherty, sister-in-law Carol (Rusty) Tinsley, brother-in-law Steven Murawski, and three nieces and a nephew.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026 at The Church of Saint Monica, 63 Main Ave, Berwyn, PA. Prior to Mass, relatives and friends may visit with the Strike family between 10:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
The family extends an invitation for all to join them for a luncheon immediately following the Mass. Interment will be private.
