Salvatore Forenza, 67, of Exton, PA passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with colon cancer at home on Saturday October 5, 2013 surrounded by his family. Sal was the husband of Cynthia (nee Dwyer) and of the late Brenda (nee Parker) Forenza; and son of Francesco & Leda (nee D’ Antonio) Forenza. Salvatore was born in Taranto, Italy, June 22, 1946. He graduated with a Doctorate in Bio-Organic Chemistry in 1970 from the University of Napes. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, University of Wyoming, & Tulane University. Sal was a professor & teaching assistant at Yale University, College of the Virgin Islands & a Research Scientist at Erba Research Institute, Milan, Italy. Since being a member of the academic community, Salvatore was a Director & Team Leader at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. where he was a member of the team that developed the extremely popular Chemotherapy medication, Taxol. After his retirement from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. Sal was President & Co-founder of Sopherion Therapeutics Inc. where he helped develop the chemotherapy medication Myocet. Salvatore is survived by his children, Renato & Kevin as well as many step children: Butch & Cara Destefano; Jennifer Allegra (nee O’Sullivan)(Chris); James & Allison Dwyer Fonda. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren: Hailey & Christopher Allegra.
