Thomas Edward Alloway, 87, died at his home in Parklane Senior Living in West Chester on August 7, 2012. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Alloway attended John Bartram High School in Southwest Philadelphia before enlisting in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He participated in the Battle of Leyte, the Battle of Luzon, and the occupation of Japan On discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Elizabeth Carse, and they had two sons, Thomas Edward, Jr and Richard Charles, who were raised in Springfield, Delaware Co. Mr. Alloway worked in sales for 26 years at the Sears stores in South Philadelphia, St David's and Granite Run. On retirement, Tom and his wife moved to Briarcliffe Condominiums in Swarthmore where Tom was known for his handyman skills. Very devoted to his family, he provided care for his mother, father, aunt, and sister in their later years.
He will be missed by his six grandchildren who remember his generosity of spirit and support.
In addition to his wife of 66 years and sons, Mr. Alloway is survived by grandchildren, Julie Alloway Garrity, Laurie Alloway, Richard Alloway, Gary Alloway, Stephanie Alloway Reinhart, Thomas Alloway, and his sister, Beth Frederick.
A memorial service will be held on September 1, 2012 at 10:30 at Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Valley Rd., Paoli, PA 19301. Friends may also call on the family from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Edgewood Memorial Garden, Glen Mills. www.allevafuneralhome.com
