

THOMAS W., JR., of Berwyn, PA passed away peacefully on October 17, 2010 survived by his children: James, Karen, Susan, Joann and Thomas III, grandchildren: Remy, Chandler, Luke, Alex, Madeline, Sawyer, Hannah, Tommy Sopko, James, Trey, Tommy Flynn, August, and Brayden, sister Maryellen and brother John, former spouse Josephine, and many nephews and nieces.
The viewing is Thursday, October 21 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Alleva Funeral Home, 1724 E. Lancaster Avenue, Paoli PA. The funeral liturgy service is Friday, October 22 at 11:00 A.M at Saint Patrick Church, 104 Channing Avenue Malvern, PA, with a viewing at church from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.
Tom grew up in Crestwood, New York, and graduated from Iona Preparatory School and Villanova University. As a second lieutenant in the Marines, Tom served and protected our democratic republic during the Korean War. He lead an artillery spotting squad of 4 Marines to spot enemy positions and then call them in for U.S. artillery. In 1953, the life expectancy of a Marine of that rank in Korea was an astonishing 22 minutes.
Tom worked for Sperry-Univac and was instrumental in the development of the successful 1100 Series mainframe computer during the 1960s and 70s.
After retirement, Tom dedicated himself to his grandchildren, who called him “Pop”, and to swimming, biking, and tennis, one of which he did every day, and to watching his Flyers, Villanova Wildcat basketball, Phillies, and Eagles.

Tom will be interred at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C., may he rest in Peace.
